Mitira Lesvos Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Mitira olive oil is produced by the Karali family on the artistic and historical island of Lesvos, birthplace of the ancient poet Sappho. Their organically cultivated olive groves are planted with the rare local varieties of Kolovi and Adramitiani which are harvested young, producing a lower yield of oil but a higher quality. Growing in rich limestone soils, these produce an exceptionally balanced and mild olive oil with strong herbacious aromas. It has a bright, golden colour, due to its low chlorophyll content, and a pleasingly light texture.

The Karali family have been cultivating olives since the beginning of the twentieth century. Their estate is located on a small hill overlooking the Mytilene port. Taking advantage of the soil’s rich limestone substrate, the trees are grown amphitheatrically on man-made stone terraces. The cultivation and processing of the olive oil is completely organic. To ensure the olive oil’s low acidity level, premature olives are carefully hand-picked before being cold pressed. The Karali’s olive oil pays homage to Lesvos’ tradition of olive oil production and it is a tribute to a family who have kept their olive grove alive for more than 100 years.
